Fly Fishing Break in Rhayader and Elan Valley

Fly fishing breaks from the 20 March – 30 September.

Mid Wales Holiday Lets are offering a bespoke fishing break in Rhayader and the Elan Valley. Fish the River Wye, River Elan, River Marteg, Llyngwyn Lake and fish the Elan Valley and stay in Either self catering 4* accommodation in Rhayader or opt for an apartment with a half board package.

What will you get… The Fishing holiday in Rhayader and the Elan Valley will cater for all your needs, Mid Wales Holiday Lets accommodation can sleep up to 18 people. With the Cwtch sleeping 5 (1 bedroom), Bakehouse 7 (2 bedroom) and Old Drapers 6 (2 bedroom). In July we will also have a fantastic new 6 bedroom apartment next to our current offering which will sleep over 10.

Day 1 (after 4pm) – On arrival you will be welcomed by a Mid Wales Holiday Let member of staff who will supply you with your permits – not including rod licences. Take time to explore Rhayader and if you select the half board package, visit the local pub for your two course evening meal.

Day 2 – (Breakfast if you are having the half board package) then you can fish 5 miles of the River Wye running through Rhayader; 3 miles of the River Marteg, a tributary of the River Wye above Rhayader; and 2 miles of the River Elan below the Elan Village. Brown Trout, Grayling and Coarse fishing. Also 2 miles of the River Claerwen for wild brown trout fishing. 4 fish limit. (Then back to the pub for your evening meal if half board).

Day 3 – (Breakfast if you are having the half board package) then you can fish Llyngwyn Lake, a natural spring fed 16 acre lake in quiet countryside, 3 miles from Rhayader. A Troutmaster water. Restocked regularly with rainbow trout from 2lb. Also some brown trout. Depth varies up to 55ft. Fly Fishing only. Open all year. Carp fishing also available. 4 fish limit. (Then back to the pub for your evening meal if half board).

Day 4 – (Breakfast if you are having the half board package) A brown trout fishery set in the beautiful scenery of the Elan Valley consisting of 4 reservoirs: Caban Coch, Garreg Ddu, Pen-y-Garreg & Craig Goch (total 850 acres). Troutmaster water. Fly fishing only. Stocked with brown trout.6 fish limit. (Then back to the pub for your evening meal if half board).

Day 5 – Breakfast (if half board) and a safe journey home, leaving before 10am.

Rhayader also has a hardware store offering fishing tackle called Hafod Hardware – but Alan the owner and his grandson Tom also have a lot of knowledge of the fishing waters in the area. Its a must!
