Rhayader the first town on the river Wye

Some of Mid Wales Holiday Lets apartments are located on the banks of the River Wye. Rhayader is the oldest town in Mid Wales and the Welsh name: Rhaeadr Gwy means the waterfall on the Wye in Welsh.

The Waterfall that the town name refers too is only a 100yds from the Bakehouse, Old Drapers and Cwtch as well as our new bunkhouse style property in Rhayader. However the waterfall was largely destroyed by explosives in 1780. This was to make way for the bridge #onourdoorstep that connects Rhayader with Cwmdauddwr. What was the waterfall is now a series of beautiful rapids and salmon jumps.

With the year of the Sea promoted by #visitwales we are celebrating the River Wye (Afon Gwy) – the fifth biggest river in the UK and it is on our doorstep! Without these areas of outstanding natural beauty and protected by sites of scientific interest we would not have the prestigious seas in Wales.

Mid Wales Holiday Lets are the ideal base to explore the River Wye with the Wye Valley Walk, Glyndwrs Way passing our apartments. Also ideal for canoeists with canoeing groups in the UK already using Mid Wales Holiday Lets as their base.

Come and explore!
