Explore the Cambrian Mountains

Mid Wales Holiday Lets are in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains and the heart of Wales. Rhayader is the perfect base to explore this wonderful part of the world!

Rhayader, or Rhaeadr Gwy, meaning Waterfall on the Wye, lies in the very heart of Wales and is the first Town on the River Wye. It is claimed to be the oldest town in Mid Wales, dating back to the 5th Century. The town, with its ford across the river, was a natural stopping place for Roman soldiers, monks, drovers and mail coaches.

Recognised as the Wildlife Centre of Mid Wales, Rhayader and its surrounding area has long been famed for rare and beautiful wildlife. The stunning landscape has rivers, streams and reservoirs, traditional upland farms, flower rich meadows and oak woodlands. See the majestic Red Kites every day, with viewing hides and photographic opportunities. The whole area is a haven for birdwatchers. Enjoy the Nature Discovery Centre at the Gilfach.

Rhayader is home to the spectacular dams and reservoirs of the Elan and Claerwen Valleys. Here is the perfect base for the whole family to experience our eateries, public houses, stunning outdoor attractions and events.

Our distinct community values, traditions and warm welcome will leave a lasting impression. We are proud of our heritage, grateful for our surroundings and are keen to share it with you, by day or by night. The small town with a big welcome.
